Multiplying Integers
At the basic level, the lecture is to help students make sense of how to multiply positive and negative integers using their following prior knowledge. First, students have had the prior knowledge of integers and started to learn how to use integer tiles to represent positive and negative integers. Second, they also have learned the concept of group in multiplication problems. At the extending level, the lecture is to connect students' concrete and representational thinking to their abstract thinking: students will use the 4 typical examples of multiplying integers to build the rule of signs for multiplication. The rule will be applied for multiplying fractions and decimals in the next lessons.
